About Carola

Hello, I'm Carola!
I am the founder & owner of Sew Happy with Carola. I’m sew happy that you are here reading this! I can’t wait to meet you at the studio!
Well, let me share a bit about me. I started sewing as a hobby, and yes, I’m self-taught.
This was 10 years ago and my first project was a cute Pillowcase little dress for my youngest daughter, my main inspiration to start sewing were always my girls, when they were little. Can you believe that I still have that dress?
My hobby become more than that, it was a passion. Friends started to ask me to make dresses for their daughters and that was the beginning of my entrepreneurial life.
I started my little boutique and quickly become so well known that I was interviewed by the local newspaper and news as an inspiration for others. Such fond memories for sure.
Few years after, I moved to Baltimore, MD where I set up my personal studio in a little room in the house that I was living. I made a lots of bags in that little and cozy studio.
And yes, what you see in the back is a flag from Chile, country where I am from.
Later, moved to a bigger house and my personal studio got bigger where I was able to spend time with some friends and teach others for fun.
Well, you might be asking how did I end up with a sewing business? All that I have to say is that sometimes, things that you least expect happens for a reason and basically that. One day, a friend asked me why don’t I teach sewing to her daughter and some friends as a birthday part. Well that was interesting and quite challenging since I never taught a group of girls sewing all at the same time! I took the challenge and WOW, it flowed amazingly, everybody left the house with a cute Pillowcase dress, and after that I said “This is what I born to do!, I’ll teach sewing!”
So I took a step of faith and turned it into a business! I bought some tables, more sewing machines and my first “official class” was the Spring Camp in April 2017! The rest is history!
I love to work with kids and adults and share my passion with them.
Also, I am not a seamstress but instead, I am a sewist which meaning I sew anything and everything plus I love to share that with others because sewing is my passion an art.
in addition, I've been teaching classes for 6 years now and summer camps with over 100 kids each season. Furthermore, I've taught before and after school care with Baltimore County Public Schools as well as classes at the Jewish Community Center.
I am so grateful for all of parents and my students that allowed me to share my passion with them also, I'm looking forward continuing sharing and teaching this amazing art of Sewing!
Sew excited to meet new friends and see many of you back at the studio!
